First annual Disney party

We are throwing a Disney party!  As I mentioned before, we needed a distraction from life and so, to make it up to the kids that we were going on a Disney cruise without them, we threw this giant party!  We had a special family home evening where each child got to throw out ideas for food, decorations, games and costumes.  I will take them each, one by one.

First off: DECORATIONS

We hung streamers all through the front two rooms the night before.  We even pulled out our big ladder to get the streamers up into the corners of the vaulted ceiling.

Charlotte made this sign.  It is the same quote that you find as you enter Disneyland.

Maggie came to work with us one day and we put her in charge of the drink dispenser.  We made it into a "Finding Nemo" fish tank.  We even had blue Kool Aid.  Maggie also made the Mickey pants cups.

Jillian was in charge of "hidden Mickeys."  She put mickey  mouse ears all over the house.  We had to laugh when we saw the Mickey ears on our family photo.  You might be wondering why Charlotte's ears are pointy.  She's Oswald of course!

Next up:  THE FOOD

Two nights before the party, we came up with our version of Mickey Premium Bars (which can only be found in the Disney parks.)  It shoved a popsicle stick inside an ice cream sandwich, attached two Oreo cookies to the top and dipped the whole thing in chocolate!  Oh my, they were GOOD!

We had your standard party food...chips, dip, veggies, dip...lots of dipping happening.

We also went to Costco and bought 15 giant churros.  We cut them up and I made a cream cheese frosting for you guessed it, more dipping.  They were the first thing to disappear!

Finally, Allison had the idea to have a pie eating contest.  It was really just a tin of whipped cream but it was yummy anyway!  Lydia coughed when we took this picture and you can see the whipped cream spraying through the air.

Next:  THE COSTUMES

We loved planning out our family's costumes.  We spent some time at Value Village trying to find the perfect outfits.

Casey was Walt Disney himself.  We found this snazzy coat and vest at Value Village.  His mustache is mascara.  I am loving the slicked back hair.

Maggie was Mike from Monster's Inc.  She quickly knitted that hat in a day's time and attached the eye and the horns.  She's so clever!  I was one of the playing card henchmen from Alice and  Wonderland.  I hated that costume because I couldn't sit down.

Charlotte was Elsa from Frozen (of course)

Allison was Mulan.  Yes, we died her hair black!

Lydia was Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

Jillian had my favorite costume...Mary Poppins of course!

We even included Sweet Pea..she is Air bud!

The Stockfords came in full Disney dress.  Shawn was the chef from the Little Mermaid, Kelli was Merida from Brave and Lauryn was Mia Thermopolis from the Princess Diaries.

The Westover family went all out too!  We had another Mary Poppins in Krista, Jared was the clock from Beauty and the Beast, MJ was our second Merida, Aiden was George Lucas and Lauren was Tinkerbell.  We LOVE  how excited everyone got to dress up!

The Farley's pulled out their very best pirate costumes.  Cassandra was Elizabeth Swann.

And finally, the Boorens.  Jared was the father from Brave, Sam was Winnie the Pooh, Charlotte was Annette Funicello, Joel was Mickey Mouse, Caleb was a singing flower from Alice and Wonderland and Drew was Indiana Jones.

Joel ended up winning the best costume prize!

Finally: THE GAMES

Charlotte had cut out 15 silhouettes of Disney characters and our guests had to guess which ones they were.

As I mentioned before, Jillian put Hidden Mickeys all around the house.  The kids had a blast searching for them!
We also played a wild game of Disney jeopardy.  Casey and I had created the game and projected it up onto the wall.  It was so fun!

We asked everyone to write down their favorite Disney memory.  We then had to guess who's was who's.

We let each of the kids take turns moderating the games.  Jillian is giving the answers to her hidden Mickey game in the picture.

And finally, who could forget the pie eating contest?  I think Joel won the grand prize!

As the party was winding down, all the guys hung out on the couch.  I thought it was a great picture!

What a great time this was!  We crammed a ton of people into our little house, had great food, fun games and lots of laughs!  It think we might make this an annual event!
